Hi. Following your tutorials for after effects has been a whole lot of fun, more so than most tutorials on the internet(these are actually inspiring me!). I have left you comments on vimeo for your AE tutorials "Light Stroke Animation" and "Great reflections in After Effects", I hope that you will take a look at my comments..my name there is giggles and pounds. In a nutshell - the reflections tutorial cuts off at around 14 minutes and the light stroke animation tutorial gave me issues with the ramp effect applied to an adjustment layer. I know this is pretty off topic, as I'm not requesting a tutorial, but I am on a journey to learn all I can in motion graphics so it will help my future career in graphics. Thanks for all you're doing to help me and others!

Hello, giggles (Sorry I don't have your real name). I thank you greatly for your comments on my tutorials and how much they help you do your job better.Thank you also for informing me of the problems with some of the tutorials. Don't you worry, I am currently updating the links to the proper versions of those tutorials.I am going to ask you to please be more specific about the problem you had with the light stroke animation tutorial on applying a ramp effect to the adjustment layer. That way, I can help you solve the problem you encountered. Lastly, I wish you all the very best in your career in motion graphics, and I admire your great ability and determination to learn. Please, if you have any links to the works that you have done that you may want to share with me and the rest of the world, let me know about it.

Thanks for the response and for fixing the tutorial links, much appreciated. In the light stroke animation tutorial, I found that applying the ramp effect to the adjustment layer does in fact work like you show in the tutorial. However, when I go to add the lens flare effect to a solid, that is where things get messy. I set the blend mode to 'add' per your instructions, however even when dragging the lens flare solid to the bottom of the layer stack, it somehow removes what was achieved by applying the ramp to the adjustment layer. The ramp is still there, but i get the same effect I would have gotten if I had just applied the ramp to a solid and placed it over the png image, completely washing it out. In hopes that you can get a better grasp of this mess, here are some links to photos to try and help explain. In the first photo, I made a new comp with dimensions of the png image, added the png image, then added an adjustment layer on top and added the ramp effect. The second photo, same as above, and then adding a solid and applying generate>lens flare effect to it and changing transfer mode to 'add', then setting up the lens flare effect settings per the tutorial and moving it to the bottom of the stack.

Hello,Giggles, I have tried very hard to come up with an effective approach to solve your problem.

1) First, I recommend that complete all the steps in the lightstroke animation tutorial BUT SKIP the section where I start to create a solid to add the lens flare, so go ahead with the tutorial without adding the lens flare solid

2) Once you are done, select ALL the layers in the composition's timeline, by that I mean select every single layer in the timeline, including all the solids, adjustment layers, basically EVERYTHING, after selecting them, go to "Layer" on the menu bar, select "Precompose"

3) Enter a new name under "New composition name", make sure you have selected "Open new composition" and that "Move All attributes into the new composition" option is checked

4) Open this new composition you have just created in step 3, You should now have the composition containing all the lighstroke's animation contained in one layer

5) Change the transfer mode of this layer created in step 4 to "Add" by going to "Layer->Blending Mode-> Add"

6) From here on, continue with the video tutorial at the section where I begin to show how to create the lens flare, so go to "Layer-> New Solid", call it "Lens Flare", and then move this solid to the BOTTOM of the layers stack in the timeline, below the composition which contains all the lighstroke's animation contained in one layer

6) Change the transfer mode of this Lens Flare layer to "Add" by going to "Layer->Blending Mode-> Add"
From here on, contine to work on the lens flare by watching the tutorial

So, right now, both layers' transfer modes should be set to "Add" as described in the steps above

What you will need to do is keyframe your lens flare animation at the right time in the timeline as I show in the tutorial

7)Now, if you wish at any point to edit the original composition which contains all the logo animation, simply open it from the "Project" panel or "Alt-Double Click" this composition from the timeline

This should open this composition with all the layers within it

8) Enjoy and I hope this will help
